THE SHORT ANSWER
The October 22 update expands the Counter-Strike 2 map scripting toolkit with Instance.Precache for asset loading state, a full CSHostage API, a new Console export for unrestricted convar manipulation, and a GameRules export that centralizes warmup, scoring, and round control. Several enums were fixed to match TypeScript definitions, and logging now includes JS call stacks.
- Instance.Precache adds client/server loading checks and a Release method for asset management
- CSHostage exposes pickup, carry, rescue state and timing callbacks for custom hostage logic
- Console export replaces Instance.Msg and moves command registration; SetConvar ignores sv_cheats
- GameRules consolidates warmup, freeze period, round timer, team score, and money APIs
- Radar elements now work in all game modes; HUD layout gains team menu and chat visibility flags
New Precache and Hostage APIs Give Mappers Fine-Grained Control
The headline addition is Instance.Precache, which returns a CSPrecache object exposing six boolean checks: IsServerLoading, IsServerLoaded, IsClientLoading, IsClientLoaded, IsLoadedForAll, and a Release method. This lets script authors gate gameplay logic behind asset readiness on both client and server without polling workarounds.
Hostage interactions received a first-class API. CSHostage now surfaces IsBeingPickedUp, IsBeingCarried, IsRescued, GetRescuer, GetPickUpStartTime, and GetPickUpFinishTime. Paired callbacks — OnHostagePickUpStart, OnHostagePickUpAbort, OnHostagePickUp, OnHostageDrop, OnHostageRescue, and OnHostageKill — fire on the Instance object, enabling custom rescue scoring, announcer lines, or cinematic sequences without entity I/O chains.
Console Export Centralizes Convar Access and Logging
A new top-level Console export replaces the scattered Instance methods. GetConvarBoolean, GetConvarNumber, GetConvarString, GetConvarVector, GetConvarQAngle, and GetConvarColor cover every convar type. SetConvar writes values synchronously and ignores sv_cheats, a deliberate change that lets map scripts enforce tournament settings or disable cvars mid-round without RCON.
Instance.Msg is now Console.Log. ClientCommand, ServerCommand, and RegisterCheatCommand moved under Console as well. The old entry points remain but are deprecated; Valve warns they will be removed in a future build.
GameRules Surface Unifies Round and Warmup Management
GameRules collects round-flow helpers that previously lived on Instance. New methods: StartWarmup, EndWarmup, GetTeamScore, AddTeamScore, and TerminateRound. Moved properties include IsWarmupPeriod, IsFreezePeriod, IsTeamIntroPeriod, GetRoundsPlayed, GetRoundRemainingTime, SetRoundRemainingTime, and AddTeamMoney. The move is additive — legacy calls still work but log deprecation notices.
AddTeamMoney now accepts CSTeamMoneyReason.NONE with a raw amount, and a crash when using that enum value has been fixed. Both CSTeamMoneyReason and CSWeaponAttackType enums were corrected to match the point_script.d.ts definitions, eliminating type mismatches that broke TypeScript compiles.
HUD, Radar, and Diagnostic Improvements
Two new custom_hud_layout classes — HUD_TEAMMENU_VISIBLE and HUD_CHAT_VISIBLE — let creators toggle the team menu and chat panels per-player via script. radar_element entities now render on the radar in every game mode, not just Rush, opening minimap markers for Wingman, Deathmatch, and custom modes.
Logging quality-of-life changes: warnings now include the JavaScript call stack, detail bad argument values, and count arguments from zero (aligning with JS conventions). The map_workshop command also received autocomplete improvements for faster iteration.
What This Means for Server Operators and Map Makers
The update is squarely aimed at the custom map and community server ecosystem. Competitive map pools can now script warmup length, round timers, and team economies without sourcemod plugins. Hostage rescue maps gain granular state tracking for custom objectives. The unrestricted Console.SetConvar is a double-edged sword — powerful for tournament automation, but server admins should audit scripts that might abuse it.
Valve did not announce a client-side gameplay patch alongside this shipping build. The changes are live on the public branch; workshop authors should recompile scripts against the updated point_script.d.ts to pick up the corrected enums.
