Minecraft's latest Marketplace add-on drops players into the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra with a full elemental bending system. Released October 16, the Avatar Legends add-on is available now for Bedrock Edition across consoles, mobile, and Windows 10/11.
Bending Mechanics
The core addition is a four-element bending system mapped to new controls. Waterbending pulls from nearby sources to create ice bridges, heal, or launch projectiles. Earthbending raises walls, launches boulders, and senses vibrations. Firebending generates lightning and combustion attacks. Airbending enables gliding, gust pushes, and high-speed movement. Each element has a skill tree unlocked through practice and quest completion.
World Generation Changes
New temple structures generate in fresh and existing worlds. The Air Temple sits atop mountain peaks with parkour challenges. The Water Tribe temple appears in frozen ocean biomes with underwater sections. The Earth Kingdom temple sprawls underground with seismic puzzles. The Fire Nation temple sits in volcanic terrain with lava-flow mechanics. Each contains unique loot: bending scrolls, nation-themed armor, and spirit-world portals.
Story and Characters
Two parallel quest lines run through the add-on. The Team Avatar path follows Aang-era characters — Katara teaches waterbending forms, Zuko oversees firebending trials, Toph runs earthbending gauntlets. The Team Korra path advances to Republic City-era content with Tenzin, Lin Beifong, and Korra herself guiding players toward the Avatar State. Dialogue uses original voice lines where available; new recordings fill gaps.
Progression and Avatar State
Players start as non-benders and choose an initial element at a temple. Mastering all four unlocks the Avatar State — a timed super mode combining all elements with enhanced movement and damage. The state has a cooldown tied to in-game days. Completing both quest lines grants a cosmetic glider skin modeled after Appa and a title display.
Technical Notes
The add-on runs on Bedrock's script API and requires version 1.21.40 or later. It supports single-player, Realms, and featured servers that enable custom content. Java Edition players cannot access Marketplace add-ons; no Java port has been announced. File size is approximately 420 MB. No additional Minecoin purchases are required beyond the initial add-on price.
What Remains Unclear
Mojang has not confirmed whether future updates will add energybending, the Spirit Wilds as a full dimension, or multiplayer bending tournaments. The development roadmap beyond launch bug fixes has not been published.
