How to Transfer a Roblox Game From a Personal Account to a Group

Roblox lets you transfer a game to a group where you have permission to publish games.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Roblox lets you transfer a game to a group where you have permission to publish games.

  • A Roblox game can be transferred to a group where the transferring user has permission to publish games.
  • Before initiating or accepting a transfer, the participating account must have a verified email address.
  • Private ModuleScripts and InsertService asset usages must be uploaded to the destination group before the transfer.
  • A package owned by an individual user might need to be recreated or replaced with a package already owned by a group.
  • An Open Cloud API key's effective permissions depend on the access of the user who last generated it.
  • If a transfer changes the API-key generator's access, Roblox recommends creating new keys under an account with appropriate access.
  • The documented initiation workflow uses Creations, Configure and Settings, Initiate ownership transfer, a transfer-implications acknowledgment, destination-group selection, game-name verification, and Initiate transfer.
  • After initiation, the Content Settings page identifies the pending group and provides a Cancel transfer request option while the transfer is pending.

Prepare for the transfer

Before initiating or accepting a transfer, verify the email address of the participating account. Upload the game's private ModuleScripts and InsertService asset usages to the destination group. If the game uses a package owned by an individual user, the package might need to be recreated or replaced with one already owned by a group.

Review any Open Cloud API keys associated with the game. A key's effective permissions depend on the access of the user who last generated it. If the transfer changes that user's access, Roblox recommends creating new keys under an account with appropriate access.

Initiate the transfer

In Creator Dashboard:

  1. Open Creations and select the game.
  2. Open Configure → Settings.
  3. Select Initiate ownership transfer.
  4. Review and acknowledge the transfer implications, then select Next.
  5. Select a destination group to which you can publish games.
  6. Enter the game name to verify the transfer.
  7. Select Initiate transfer.

The Content Settings page then identifies the pending group. Until the request is accepted, the current owner can cancel it from that page by selecting Cancel transfer request.

Accept the transfer

The recipient can open the game page from the transfer notification or through an overview-page link provided by the current owner. In the Transfer Details dialog, the recipient reviews and acknowledges the implications, selects Next, enters the game name, and selects Accept transfer.

Once the group accepts, Roblox makes the game private and closes all associated servers. Processing typically takes a few minutes but can take longer for complex games. After completion, the group must configure any needed permissions and make the game public again.

Group roles can separately grant capabilities such as editing and publishing games, viewing analytics, configuring monetization, managing secrets and API keys, and accessing data stores. Several experience permissions can also be assigned per game.

What the transfer retains

The transferred game retains its game ID, place ID, and URL.

A transfer request expires after seven days. After receiving a transferred game, the new owner must wait 30 days before transferring that game again.

You can continue changing the game until the destination group accepts and the transfer process begins. Changes made during the active transfer process are not carried over.
