Roblox Adds Item Versioning and Dashboard Organization for Avatar Creators

Creators can now update published 3D accessories and layered clothing without losing asset IDs or sales history. The Creator Dashboard also gains folders, a recents view, and a marketplace-category browser.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Roblox has rolled out item versioning for 3D accessories and layered clothing, letting creators fix published items in place while preserving asset IDs, sales history, and existing owners' copies. The Creator Dashboard adds folders for organization, a recents view showing the 50 latest uploads, and a marketplace-category browser that matches how shoppers browse. Each update costs the standard upload fee and passes through moderation. Bundle versioning is planned next.

  • Item versioning works for 3D accessories and layered clothing; bundles coming later
  • Updates preserve asset ID, sales history, and automatically deliver fixes to owners
  • Creator Dashboard adds folders (single-level, multi-folder support), a 50-item recents view, and marketplace-category grouping
  • Each update costs the same upload fee as a new item and undergoes moderation review
  • Updates must be fixes or quality improvements, not redesigns; rejected updates leave the original item unchanged

Item Versioning Lets Creators Fix Published Accessories

Until now, a clipping cage, texture seam, or bad thumbnail on a published avatar item meant uploading a brand-new asset and starting sales history from zero. Roblox has changed that. Creators can now open an item in Studio, make fixes, and choose "Update an existing asset" when saving. The asset ID stays the same, sales history carries over, and every current owner receives the corrected version automatically.

Versioning supports 3D accessories and layered clothing. The new version must remain the same item type — you cannot swap a hat for a face accessory. Updates are intended for fixes and same-look quality improvements: fit adjustments, cage corrections, small mesh or texture tweaks, and thumbnail replacements. Substantial redesigns are not permitted. Every update goes through moderation before going live. If rejected, the original item remains untouched and the creator can adjust and resubmit.

Fees and Review Process

Each update costs the standard upload fee for that item type because it receives the same moderation review as a new upload. Creators receive an inbox notification if an update is rejected, with the original item left intact. The FAQ clarifies that creation date and sales history never reset, and asset type cannot be changed via update.

Folders and Recents Organize the Dashboard

The Creator Dashboard’s Avatar Items section now includes folders. Creators can group assets and bundles by collection, drop, work-in-progress, or any other scheme. Folders work for both user and group creations, an item can live in multiple folders, and nesting is not supported yet. To start, go to Creations → Avatar Items → All, create a folder, and add items from the item menu.

A new Recents view under the All tab shows the 50 most recently uploaded avatar items and bundles. New uploads appear there immediately, eliminating the need to hunt through categories to find what you just published.

Marketplace Category View Matches Shopper Experience

Dashboard items can now be grouped by Marketplace category — the same taxonomy shoppers use — instead of only by asset type. One category can contain several asset types; for example, both a layered clothing shirt and pants may be classified as Bodysuit. This shows creators where their items actually appear to buyers. A toggle in the top right switches back to the asset-type view. Newly uploaded items may take a short time to be classified; until then they sit in Recents.

What’s Next

Roblox says bundle versioning and additional tools for managing large catalogs are in development. These features address long-standing creator requests and are live now for 3D accessories and layered clothing.
