Roblox Adds Item Versioning, Folders, and Category Views to Creator Dashboard

Creators can now update published 3D accessories and layered clothing without losing asset IDs or sales history. The Creator Dashboard also gains folders, a recents view, and a marketplace-style category browser.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Roblox has launched item versioning for avatar accessories and clothing, plus new organization tools in Creator Dashboard including folders, a recents view, and marketplace category grouping.

  • Published 3D accessories and layered clothing can now be updated in place, preserving asset ID, sales history, and existing owners receive fixes automatically
  • Each update costs the standard upload fee and passes through moderation review before going live
  • Creator Dashboard adds folders (single-level, items can belong to multiple), a recents view showing the 50 latest uploads, and a marketplace category view
  • Versioning for bundles is in development

Item Versioning Lets Creators Fix Published Accessories

Roblox has rolled out item versioning for 3D accessories and layered clothing, ending a long-standing limitation where creators had to re-upload items entirely to fix bugs. Until now, a clipping cage, texture seam, or bad thumbnail meant publishing a new asset, which reset sales history and left existing owners with the broken version.

With the update, creators open an item in Roblox Studio, make fixes, click Save to Roblox, enable "Update an existing asset," enter the original asset ID, pay the upload fee, and submit. The asset ID, sales history, and creation date all carry over. Owners receive the fixed version automatically.

Updates are restricted to fixes and quality improvements that keep the item visually consistent with what buyers purchased. Changing the design substantially is not permitted. Every update goes through the same moderation review as a new upload, and rejected updates leave the original item untouched so creators can adjust and resubmit.

Folders and Recents Organize the Dashboard

Creator Dashboard now includes folders under Creations → Avatar Items → All. Folders work for both user and group creations, hold avatar assets and bundles, and support single-level organization with no nesting. An item can appear in multiple folders, letting creators group by collection, drop, work-in-progress, or any other scheme.

A new Recents view under the All tab shows the 50 most recently uploaded avatar items and bundles. New uploads appear immediately, eliminating the need to search through categories to find a just-published item.

Marketplace Category View Matches Shopper Experience

The dashboard now groups items by Marketplace category — the same taxonomy shoppers browse — instead of only by asset type. One category can include several asset types; for example, both layered clothing shirts and pants may be classified as Bodysuit. This shows creators where their items appear to buyers.

Classification is automatic. Newly uploaded items may take a short time to be categorized; in the meantime they appear in Recents. Creators can toggle off "Categorize by Taxonomy" in the top right to return to the asset-type view.

Fees, Review Process, and What's Next

Each version update costs the same upload fee as a new item of that type, reflecting the moderation review each update undergoes. If an update is rejected, creators receive an inbox notification and can revise and resubmit.

Roblox says versioning support for bundles is in development, along with more tools for managing large catalogs. The company described these as some of the longest-standing creator requests.
