THE SHORT ANSWER
Roblox's October 5-9 weekly recap introduces Studio betas for if-local Luau syntax and animation graph state machines, a new collision summaries API, automatic translation for text-to-speech in 11 languages, IP-based avatar item licensing, and enforced unified roles across Communities and Creator Hub.
- if local and if const Luau syntax now in Studio beta for inline variable declaration in conditions
- Animation Graph Editor gets State Machine and Expression nodes in beta
- BasePart:BindToCollisionSummaries returns contact points, normals, and impact speeds from physics solver
- Text-to-speech auto-localizes to 11 languages with AudioTextToSpeech.AutoLocalize defaulting to true
- Creators can apply for licenses to sell IP-based avatar items with Licensed badges
- Community and Creator Hub groups now share one role and permission list with two-way sync
Roblox rolled out a dense set of developer-facing changes during the week of October 5, headlined by two new Studio betas, a physics callback that exposes solver-level collision data, and policy shifts around avatar licensing and group permissions. The updates target experience engineers, avatar creators, and community managers alike.
New Luau Syntax and Animation Tools in Beta
Two language-level features entered beta via the Studio Beta Features tab. The first adds if local and if const statements, letting developers declare a variable directly inside an if or elseif condition. The variable scopes to the branch, reducing boilerplate and shadowing bugs. The second beta brings State Machine and Expression nodes to the Animation Graph Editor. Creators can now define state transitions and parameter math inside the graph instead of scripting them in Luau, enabled under File > Beta Features > Animation Graphs State Machines.
A third beta, SLIM Debug Tints, adds visualization modes that color models by streaming state, level of detail, and transcoder status. The toggles live in Studio's Visualization Modes panel and the Developer Console in a running experience, giving a quick read on streaming and LOD behavior before publish.
Physics and Audio APIs Get Precision Upgrades
BasePart:BindToCollisionSummaries is now available. The callback delivers precise contact points, normals, and impact speeds straight from the physics solver each frame. The intent is to let developers build accurate impact effects, sound triggers, and damage systems without rolling custom collision detection.
On the audio side, the text-to-speech API gained automatic translation across 11 languages. AudioTextToSpeech.AutoLocalize defaults to true, so generated speech plays in each player's client language without extra scripting. Supported languages were not enumerated in the announcement.
Marketplace Licensing and Role Unification Go Live
Creators can now apply for licenses to produce and sell IP-based avatar items. Approved items display a Licensed badge; the same badge system is slated for games soon. The program formalizes what was previously a manual review path.
Group management saw a structural change: Community groups and Creator Hub groups now share a single role and permission list. Changes sync both ways automatically. Groups that had not opted in were migrated by October 5. Roblox advises reviewing role visibility and permissions post-migration, as the unification can surface previously hidden roles.
Debug Tools and Community Feedback
Release Notes for version 738 were referenced but not detailed in the recap. Forum comments surfaced recurring requests: AlphaMasks for UGC accessories, new UIGradient types still in beta, StudioCaptureService support, and fixes for server-authority attribute loss and raycast model returns. None received official follow-up in the thread.
The next weekly recap will cover October 12-16.
