Roblox Studio MCP Server Adds Open Cloud Access and Asset Import Tools

The Model Context Protocol server built into Roblox Studio now lets AI agents call Open Cloud APIs directly, manage game settings and monetization, and import 3D models from external tools like Blender — all with a new per-game permission system.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Roblox has expanded its Studio MCP server with full Open Cloud API access, a granular permission system, and three new Skills for asset import, permission management, and Open Cloud operations.

  • MCP clients can now invoke Open Cloud APIs to create developer products, game passes, modify game settings, and read analytics
  • New per-game permission system controls Open Cloud scopes, upload folders, data store access, and HTTP domain allowlists
  • Asset import workflow handles GLB/FBX from Blender, Maya, and other tools with automatic scale, texture, and anchoring fixes
  • Three new Skills teach agents to use Open Cloud, manage permissions, and import assets with confirmation prompts
  • Known issue: execute_luau HTTP requests fail in unsaved places until published to Roblox

Open Cloud APIs Now Reachable From MCP Chat

Roblox has expanded the Studio MCP server so connected AI agents can call the full Open Cloud API surface from the same chat window where they edit places. The new open_cloud_invoke tool lets agents create and edit developer products and game passes with prices and icons, change game and place settings, publish updates, restart servers, and read analytics — tasks that previously required switching to Creator Hub.

Agents can also call external APIs added to a domain allowlist, letting them pull data from a creator's own services into the place. The announcement notes that Skills shipped with the update instruct agents to ask before using permissions involving money, player data, secrets, or publishing, and not to work around disabled permissions.

Per-Game Permission System

A new MCP Permissions tab — accessible from Assistant settings or the MCP button in Studio's bottom-right corner — lets creators choose exactly what each agent can do per game. Permissions are saved to the account and collaborators set their own. The main sections:

  • Publish & manage assets — upload models and images, check status
  • Look at your game — read settings, version history, analytics
  • Edit your game — change settings, publish, restart servers
  • Save & load data — data store and memory store read/write from Luau
  • Connect to the internet — HTTP requests to allowlisted domains
  • Money & monetization — create and edit developer products and game passes

Asset Import From Blender, Maya, and Other Tools

A new import workflow lets agents bring models from external 3D tools that export GLB or FBX. The agent exports, uploads, and inserts the model, then compares the result against the source and fixes common import issues: resizing to real-world scale, correcting rotation, restoring dropped textures, recoloring grey parts, anchoring, and placing the model on the ground clear of other objects.

To use it, creators enable Publish & manage assets and approve the folder containing their exports. Uploads are permanent and go through standard moderation. The import Skill prompts for confirmation before uploading, and creators remain responsible for everything uploaded to their account, including agent-initiated uploads.

Three New Skills

The update adds Skills that teach agents how to use the new capabilities:

  1. Open Cloud Skill — how to call Open Cloud APIs via open_cloud_invoke
  2. Permissions Skill — how to read and manage the per-game permission settings
  3. Import Skill — how to run the Blender-to-Studio import pipeline with verification steps

All Skills are available to any MCP-connected agent automatically.

Known Issue With Unsaved Places

A follow-up note from Roblox staff flags a limitation: in a place that hasn't been saved to Roblox, execute_luau cannot make HTTP requests. The client can only reach domains on the HTTP allow list, and domains cannot be added until the place is saved. The workaround is to use File → Save to Roblox or File → Publish to Roblox, then add required domains under Connect to the internet → HTTP domain allow list. A fix is in progress.
