THE SHORT ANSWER
Roblox gave AI agents in Studio MCP full Open Cloud access, added Test Teleports so creators can test TeleportAsync without publishing, raised the minimum draw distance to 500 studs on all platforms, launched Avatar Backgrounds for all eligible Marketplace creators, and announced asset versioning for meshes, images, audio, and video starting January 19, 2027. Group payout waits drop to three days for DevEx-approved members, while suspicious transactions may face extended holds.
- Studio MCP agents can now call Open Cloud APIs from the same chat used to edit a place.
- Test Teleports in Studio enable cross-place playtesting without publishing.
- Minimum draw distance increased from 200 to 500 studs on lowest quality level.
- Avatar Backgrounds are now publishable and sellable on Marketplace.
- Asset versioning launches January 19, 2027 for meshes and images, with audio and video to follow.
AI Agents Get Open Cloud Reach
Studio MCP moved from a building assistant to an operations tool. Connected agents can now call Open Cloud APIs directly from the chat pane where they edit a place, letting them manage developer products, groups, and other live services without leaving Studio. The same update adds asset-import workflows so agents can fetch and place assets by ID. Prompt to Animation also entered Studio Beta: Studio Assistant and MCP can generate R15 animations from a text prompt, with an optional Motion Rebuilder that converts existing R6 clips to R15.
Cross-Place Playtesting Without Publishing
Test Teleports arrived in Studio's Test and Team Test modes. Creators can now invoke TeleportAsync across places without pushing a live build. All supported teleport types run with no production code changes, and Studio tooling — server inspection, device simulator, debugger, and Assistant or MCP playtest automation — carries over across the teleport boundary. This removes the publish-iterate-republish loop for multi-place experiences.
Marketplace and Economy Shifts
Avatar Backgrounds exited beta today. Every eligible Marketplace creator can upload and sell the scenes that sit behind avatars, expanding the cosmetic layer beyond the character itself. Promotional Text entered beta for all creators, giving a secondary line under the experience name so key details don't get truncated. On the payout side, one-time group payouts now clear in three days for members who have completed at least one approved DevEx; default accounts without DevEx history keep the 14-day wait. Meanwhile, transactions flagged as suspicious may be placed on an Extended Hold lasting several days to a few weeks, and flagged one-time group payouts can trigger an email verification step.
Asset Versioning and Analytics Depth
Starting January 19, 2027, meshes and images will support versioned publishing under a single asset ID. Creators can reference a specific version in properties or scripts with rbxassetid://1234&version=3. Audio and video will follow. Asset Manager received a redesigned details view that consolidates metadata, technical specs, previews, sharing settings, and common actions — right-click an asset and choose View Details. In Creator Analytics, Journeys now visualizes branching player paths and drop-off points, giving designers a funnel view of where sessions fracture.
Rendering Floor Raised, Animation Pipeline Tightened
The lowest quality level's draw distance jumps from 200 to 500 studs on every platform, and quality levels ramp faster out of the gate. Water and beams scale more predictably at distance. Test the change in Studio Settings > Rendering > Editor Quality Level. AnimatedImages Early Access shipped GetParameter() and SetParameter() replacing the older Track and CurrentFrame API, clips now appear in the Properties panel, frames preload to kill first-clip flicker, and AnimationPlayer earned its own Explorer icon. CreateSurfaceAppearanceAsync gained DataModel Content and Asset ID support alongside EditableImages, cutting memory and CPU cost; enable Mixed Content in File > Beta Features. FACS animation validation errors now pinpoint the exact failure location and reason, reducing false positives and preventing invalid assets from slipping through.
