Roblox Weekly Recap: Simpler Publishing, In-Game Makeup, and Studio Beta Tools

Roblox's October 12-18 recap introduces a guided publishing flow with early tester invites, in-experience makeup creation with 70% revenue share, updated discovery analytics, and several Studio beta features including Package Overrides and 4K texture generation.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Roblox rolled out a simpler publishing flow that lets creators invite up to 10 early testers and reach players 16+ with a one-question path. Discovery analytics now use an updated measurement pipeline showing higher impressions but slightly lower play-through rates. Players can create and buy custom makeup in-experience, earning creators 70% revenue share after recouping the creation advance. Studio betas add Package Overrides for non-destructive package editing, upgraded UIShadow with text and gradient shadows, and Quality mode for 4K PBR texture generation. The US 18+ DevEx rate increased to $0.54 per 100 Earned Robux for Paid Access, backed by new Age Check API tools.

Publishing and Early Access Changes

Roblox has replaced the previous publishing workflow with a guided flow that spans Creator Hub and Studio. For experiences without age-restricted content, a single-question path now clears the way to players aged 16 and older. Creators can invite up to 10 friends or Group members as early testers to preview a game before it goes public. Highly Engaged Player counts in Creator Hub now refresh hourly instead of daily, giving a tighter feedback loop on retention.

Discovery Analytics Overhaul

Starting October 12, impressions, clicks, and plays originating from Home, Search, and Charts are captured through a new measurement pipeline. Roblox warns that creators may see higher impression and play counts alongside a small dip in play-through rate. Historical data remains unchanged and no action is required on the creator side.

In-Experience Makeup and Avatar Item Management

Players can now design, purchase, and save custom makeup, eyelashes, and eyebrows without leaving an experience. Creators receive a 70% revenue share on purchases after the creation advance is recouped. The feature is testable in the uncopylocked Roblox Avatar Creator demo. In Studio, published 3D accessories and clothing can be updated while preserving the original asset ID, sales history, and existing owners. Creator Dashboard adds Folders, a Recents view showing the latest 50 uploads, and a category browser that mirrors Marketplace navigation.

Studio Beta Features

Three beta capabilities are available behind File > Beta Features:

  • Package Overrides lets you edit a package in your place while still pulling updates from the source package. Each change is tracked as an override and reapplied automatically when the source updates.
  • Upgraded UIShadow adds text shadows, knockout shadows, inset shadows, and gradient fills. Experiences using these capabilities cannot be published live during the beta.
  • Quality Mode for Texture Generation produces 4K PBR textures with color, roughness, and metalness maps. Access it via Model > Texture, right-click an object > Generate > Texture, or ask Assistant with /generate_texture while a mesh is selected.

The Device Simulator has also left beta. It now supports mouse-wheel device switching, resolution previews in the dropdown, and a simpler toggle for Network Simulation.

US 18+ DevEx Rate and Age Verification

Paid Access purchases in Robux now qualify for the US 18+ Developer Exchange rate of $0.54 per 100 Earned Robux, up from $0.38 effective September 21. The Age Check API introduces Player:PromptAgeCheck() and the read-only Player.AgeChecked property so creators can prompt age verification and read the result directly.

Release Notes and Community Feedback

Release Notes for version 743 accompany the recap. On the forum, creators questioned why Highly Engaged Player counts appear to trend downward despite the hourly refresh, while others reported unresolved "Content not Accessible" errors on legacy experiences.
