THE SHORT ANSWER
The November 6 update wipes all blueprints on every server, reduces research costs by up to 76%, removes scrap from workbench crafting, adds automated box sorting via Storage Adaptor, introduces a 18-slot Mini Fridge for early-game food storage, and fixes monument puzzle camping that blocked loot respawns.
- Global blueprint wipe on all servers including Facepunch officials
- Research costs cut: Common 15→20, Uncommon 30→75, Rare 60→125, Very Rare 120→500
- Scrap crafting cost removed from workbenches; blueprint fragments unchanged
- Storage Adaptor gains power input and five sorting modes with 1-second auto-sort
- Mini Fridge deployable: 3 power, 18 slots, fits under half-height floors, early Engineers unlock
- Monument puzzle reset now ignores players within 10 meters after 5-minute timer
Facepunch's November devblog, titled "Pivot Or Die," lands a heavy hand on Rust's progression loop. The headline change is a forced blueprint wipe across every server — official and community alike — paired with steep research cost reductions and the removal of scrap from workbench crafting. The goal: make players actually use early-tier gear again instead of jumping straight to endgame on day one.
Progression Overhaul: Wipes and Cheaper Unlocks
Since most servers never blueprint wipe, veterans joining a fresh map wipe already have everything unlocked. That kills the early and mid-game entirely. Facepunch's answer is blunt: wipe everything, then make the climb back faster but meaningful.
New research costs:
- Common: 15 (was 20)
- Uncommon: 30 (was 75)
- Rare: 60 (was 125)
- Very Rare: 120 (was 500)
Scrap no longer factors into workbench crafting. Blueprint fragment requirements stay the same. The loop now pushes players to find components and fragments first; scrap accumulates naturally and has a meaningful sink again each wipe.
Facepunch isn't committing to monthly blueprint wipes yet. They'll "play, watch, and listen" before deciding on a cadence.
Box Sorting: Storage Adaptor Gets Power and Brains
Attach a Storage Adaptor to a compatible container and you'll see a new power input plus five sorting modes:
- Alphabetical (language selectable)
- Condition
- Count
- Category (matches conveyor filter)
- Custom snapshot — arrange a box how you like, snapshot it, and the sorter recreates that layout
Sorting triggers automatically one second after any item enters or leaves the container. Supported boxes: Large and Small Wooden Boxes, the Coffin, and all DLC storage skins (barrels, box skins).
Mini Fridge: Early-Game Food Preservation
A new deployable aimed at solo players and tight base designs:
- Power draw: 3
- Capacity: 18 slots
- Placement: fits under half-height floor builds
- Unlock: early Engineers workbench tier
It bridges the gap between raw meat rotting in a box and the full-sized refrigerator that arrives much later.
Monument Puzzle Reset Fix
Last month's Meta Shift update made blueprint fragments scarce and valuable. Players camping monument puzzles and loot rooms were inadvertently blocking the 30-minute respawn timer just by standing nearby. The new logic:
- Starts a 5-minute timer when a puzzle is completed
- If a player is within 10 meters of the puzzle/loot room, the timer pauses
- Once clear for five minutes, loot respawns and fragments can appear again
This should break the feedback loop where camping prevented spawns, which encouraged more camping, which prevented spawns.
Performance and Cosmetics
The devblog mentions performance improvements and an RPG skin among other changes, but details are light. Expect the usual mix of backend optimizations and store updates alongside the mechanical shifts.
Bottom line: Rust's November update tries to reset the progression clock for everyone, cheapen the grind back up, and give solo players better tools for small-footprint bases. Whether the forced wipe cadence sticks remains an open question — Facepunch wants data first.
