THE SHORT ANSWER
Rust's Power Trip update introduces Player Maintained Monuments — restoring the Power Plant with Heavy Fuses activates a chain of map-wide systems including a controllable Satellite Crash event, Dome oil pumping, water pipe networks, and recycler efficiency changes.
- Power Plant requires Heavy Fuses to restore; unlocks map-wide power grid for electrical circuits and climbable powerlines
- Satellite Crash event at Launch Site lets players target crash locations for server-visible loot drops
- Dome oil pumping yields crude for 20 minutes; requires Tanker module and car lift to extract
- Green recyclers nerfed to 50% baseline efficiency, restored to 60% with power; new 75% red recycler at max power
- Water Treatment Plant gearboxes and roadside pipes restore map water flow when maintained
Power Plant Restoration Anchors the Update
The centerpiece of August's forced wipe is the Power Plant, which can now be fired back up using Heavy Fuses found as loot. Insert them into new special fuse boxes at the monument and systems come online in stages — more fuses means more features. Once live, powerline poles along roads supply electricity to player circuits and become climbable without ladders. The grid also gates every other new system in this update.
Satellite Crash Event Adds Server-Wide PvP Flashpoint
At Launch Site, a Satellite Control Computer accepts an aiming module and lets a player steer a descending satellite. Thruster controls have no labels, so operators learn by trial. Once locked, the descent is visible to everyone on the server. Impact spawns new satellite loot crates that cool down before opening — creating a contested event with a built-in audience.
Dome Oil Pumping Requires Vehicle Logistics
With the grid active, a switch on Large Oil Rig pumps crude to the Dome for 20 minutes. Small Oil Rig has a half-rate switch; enabling both yields 1.5x output. Crude cannot be collected on foot — players must drain it with the Tanker vehicle module and haul it to a car lift. The loop turns a static monument into a moving target for ambushes.
Recycler Economy Shifted Toward Power Dependency
Green recyclers outside safe zones dropped from 60% to 50% baseline efficiency. Power Plant output restores them to 60% and cuts recycle duration from 5 seconds to 4.5 seconds at maximum power. A single red recycler at the Power Plant itself runs at 75% efficiency but only when the grid is maxed. Yellow recyclers inside safe zones are untouched.
Water and Garage Systems Round Out the Network
Roadside water pipes now spawn empty. The Water Treatment Plant holds two gearboxes; with grid power and inserted gears (consumed on use), they pressurize a central tank and clear blockages map-wide. Maintenance after the initial spin-up is lighter. At Oxum's Gas Station, the garage door and car lift activate when the grid is live or the backup generator runs. Raising the lift reveals a cave with higher-tier car part spawns.
What Remains Unclear
Facepunch has not published exact fuse counts per unlock tier, satellite crash cooldowns, or whether the Water Treatment Plant's gear consumption rate scales with server population. The 72-hour and 90-minute figures seen in community coverage have not been confirmed in the official devblog. Expect hotfixes as the wipe progresses.
